Group PhotoFushicho Daiko, "Phoenix Drummers" - Drums a blazing across the southwest since 1992. The diverse and unique talents of this ensemble are taking taiko to places it has never been. Bold creative concepts are explored, rehearsed and presented to enthusiastic audiences of all ages, cultures and backgrounds. The powerful, fascinating rhythms are only part of the experience. Though storytelling, humor and an excitingly unique blend of music, theater, and dance Fushicho Daiko treats it's audiences to a totally exhilarating cultural experience.

Our Plays

"The Drums of Noto Hanto" (a musical play) - Ancient Japanese folktale set in Samauri times. The story highlights community teamwork and childhood empowerment. A inspiring example of courage and creativity in the face of overwhelming danger. This inter-active production allows for student participation with minimal rehearsal time. Basic instruction in taiko and Japanese dance are offered.

"The Crane Wife" (a musical play) - A mythical tale of transformation unfolds as a crane takes human form. A touching story of love and compassion is corrupted by greed and materialism. A lesson in the true meaning of life, for young and old alike. This inter-active production allows for student participation with minimal rehearsal time. Basic instruction in taiko and Japanese dance are offered.

This production also incorporates music played on traditional Japanese string and wind instruments.

"The Pine of Akoya" (a musical play) - A recent adaptation of a Japanese Folktale. Children provide the wisdom to overcome racism in ancient Japan. This story also focuses on family ties and the awesome power of music. This inter-active production allows for student participation with minimal rehearsal time. Basic instruction in taiko and Japanese dance are offered.

This production also incorporates music played on traditional Japanese string and wind instruments.
